Research Portal Denmark
About Data & Documentation

In Research Portal Denmark, a variety of services and databases employ different methods for data collection and harvesting.
In the
Grants database, a national exchange format is used to deliver grant metadata. This format, known as the
Data Exchange Format for Grant Information, is maintained by the NORA initiative in collaboration with the Working Group for Funders and Grants.

The Data Exchange Format for Grant Information is developed for Research Portal Denmark to standardize and streamline the exchange of grant metadata from funders to the portal. Designed to be simple, flexible, and interoperable, the format facilitates data reuse, and analysis.
Its structure is largely based on the reporting requirements funders use when submitting data to Statistics Denmark (DST) on “Funders’ Activities,” with a few additional fields. This familiarity lowers the entry barrier for funders, as many are already accustomed to the process through their annual reporting to DST.

The number of mandatory fields has been kept to a minimum, making data sharing as easy as possible.

The exchange format consists of 6 mandatory worksheets, each containing key information.

The mandatory worksheets are:

  1. Grants
  2. Persons
  3. Organizations
  4. Keywords
  5. Green research
  6. Resulting publications

The format is continuously updated when changes or extensions are added. The latest version of Data Exchange Format for Grant Information is version 1.1 (updated 30.08.2024).
